You: Planned, Called, and Equipped

You: Planned, Called, and Equipped

I want to share with you some great news! God has a good plan for you and your life. Through scripture we can see that God is a planner. He planned the end from the beginning. He knows your life from beginning to end. His Word is full of scriptures about his plans for the earth, the nations, Jerusalem, the Jewish people, and even for YOU. You might think that you are nothing special, that you are just one of the billions of the people on this planet and your life isn’t that important. You might even think you were an accident. But the truth is seen in God’s Word:

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

God is speaking to the prophet Jeremiah in this verse. We could be tempted to think, “ok, sure, of course God is going to pay special attention to one of his prophets. But, I’m no prophet.” Well, let’s remember what else the Bible tells us, “God is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34). That means he doesn’t play favorites. He loves everyone the same and treats everyone the same. So the reality is this:

God knew YOU (the real you – your spirit) before HE formed YOU (on purpose) in YOUR mother’s womb!

Let’s look further at what God says in his Word about YOUR creation in Psalm 139: 13-18:

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body, and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me,O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!”

Yes, you read that right. God has thoughts about YOU. He has more thoughts about YOU than can be numbered. Wow, it’s hard to even grasp that concept, but it’s true. Included in all of those thoughts about you, is a plan for your life, a calling, a purpose. Something only YOU can do. The family you were born into, the country you were born into, the year you were born into, the generation you were born into – is all for a reason. Just like Esther, you are here for “such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).

Being born into this world, you were separated from God because of sin. Not only did God plan YOU and YOUR purpose on the earth, he set a plan into motion for YOU to be reconciled to Him through his son Jesus Christ:

“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” (Ephesians 1:4-5)

I love the part about how this gave God great pleasure. God had great pleasure in YOU being adopted into his family. Why? Because of what we just saw in the scriptures: He knew you before you were born, He knit you together in your mother’s womb, He has precious thoughts about you; so many thoughts that they are innumerable! God loves YOU!

God knew that without Jesus you would not be able to fulfill the calling and purposes He had placed on your life. Ephesians 2:10 says it like this: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” At salvation you were also given the Holy Spirit who now lives inside of you. The Holy Spirit is God’s Spirit, and He provides YOU with all that you need to accomplish the plans, purposes, and callings God placed on your life. Through the Holy spirit you have: power (Acts 1:8), spiritual gifts (Hebrews 2:4), fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), wisdom and truth (John 16:13), comfort, help, and strength (John 14:25-26), and more!

Let’s recap: God planned YOU and knew YOU before YOU were born, and he placed YOU in this world right where YOU need to be. He has a purpose, plan, calling for YOUR life. He made a way for YOU to be reconciled to Him and adopted into his family through Jesus. Then he equipped YOU with everything YOU need to be successful at fulfilling the plans, purposes, and callings on YOUR life, through the Holy Spirit.

Wow! God is amazing!

For some of you though, you might be stuck on something. You might be like I used to be: confused and questioning on what is God’s plan for my life, my calling, my purpose. I used to think my calling was like a train I had to catch. A puzzle I had to hurry up and figure out or I would miss it. I know now that those thoughts were from the enemy, trying to keep me confused and stuck. The truth is that God didn’t do all that planning and equipping just to have you struggle to figure it all out on your own. Seek the Lord and ask him to lead you into the plans, purposes, and calling for your life. It’s not a secret, and he isn’t hiding it from you.

God’s purpose, plan, or calling for your life may be to work in the Children’s ministry at your church. It might be to be a godly Mother or Father to the children that the Lord provided you. It could be to be a Pastor or Minister or the spouse of a Pastor or Minister. It might be to manage a company, or be a missionary, or invent a new piece of technology. It could be anything, and maybe you’re already doing it! But know that God has given YOU all that YOU need to be successful in it. He has gifted YOU for it. So, follow YOUR gifts and abilities, follow peace, follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, and trust God to lead YOU.
