A Prayer for the Evening
Pray this prayer in the evening, as your day is winding down or just before bed. Let go of the stresses of the day and fill your mind with thoughts of the Lord, his provision, his rest, and his promises to you for tomorrow.
Father,
Thank you for watching over me, being with me, and helping me today. No matter if it was the best day, the worst day, or just a so-so day, I lift my voice in thanks to you now. For your word says to “give thanks in every circumstance… (1 Thessalonians 5:18)”
I will not worry about tomorrow. As 1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) instructs, “I now cast all my cares [all my anxieties, all my worries, and all my concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about me [with deepest affection, and watches over me very carefully].”
In this moment I choose to let go of any anger, unforgiveness, resentment, or irritation towards anyone from the day. In your strength, I choose to let go of any time I was offended today, big or small, and I extend forgiveness to the person or people involved. Bring it to my mind if there is anything that I need to repent of from this day.
I trust you Lord to provide for everything that will be needed tomorrow. For your Word says, “my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).” And I know Lord that you are working all things together for my good because I love you and I am called according to your purposes (Romans 8:28)!
As I lay down to sleep, help me to rest and relax. Restore my strength and cause me to be refreshed. Give me wisdom, direction, and revelation as I sleep, for your Word says “I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me (Psalm 16:7). ” Cause me to wake up with new ideas, strategies, and wise plans.
I receive the promises of your Word that “I will lie down in peace and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe (Psalm 4:8) and that “When I lie down, I will not be afraid, when I lie down, my sleep will be sweet (Proverbs 3:24).
I thank you that when I wake in the morning to start a new day, I will be refreshed and rested. And I will say of you Lord, “Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning (Lamentations 3:23 NLT)!”
In the name of Jesus I pray,
Amen.
