What does it mean to “confess the Word of God”?

“I confess, I ate the last cookie!”

You might be thinking of confessing your sins or wrongdoings to God, a priest, or a loved one. Although that is extremely important, in this case, we are talking about confessing the Word of God over our lives, loved ones, and circumstances. God’s Word is full of promises for us. When we begin to make confessions over our lives, loved ones, and circumstances, we are speaking God’s promises into our reality. These confessions are based on the Word of God. God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34), so each one of these applies to you and your life.

Why confessions?

Words have power. God created the universe and all things using words (Genesis 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,24,26)! We are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26). The Bible has a lot to say about our words and how powerful they are. When we couple our words, with the powerful Word of God, victory comes! Our lives are changed, we overcome challenges and obstacles, we are strengthened spiritually, and we have victory in this life. Confessing God’s Word out loud will build up your spirit and your faith, as “faith comes by hearing,  and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17 KJV).”

What is a confession of God’s Word?

A confession of God’s Word is simply taking scripture and making it into a phrase about yourself, a loved, your circumstances, etc. You can do this for yourself with any scripture that applies to you or what you are dealing with in your life. It could be a topic you are studying such as prosperity or healing. Or  simply just biblical truths that you want to grow in faith on and get down deep in your spirit. On this website we have created lists of scripture based confessions by topic.

How do you use them?

When you make a confession of God’s Word, feel free to change the pronouns. Put your own name in, add your kids’ names, your spouse’s name, etc. Make it applicable to your situation and need, while keeping the spirit and meaning of the scripture.

On this website you will find ready made confession lists by topic.  Print out the list of confessions. Read them outloud several times a day. Tape them to your bathroom mirror, carry them in your pocket, or in your purse. Make it a point to read them often and speak them over yourself, loved ones,  and circumstances. Your  knowledge of God’s Word and his promises  for you will grow, strengthening your faith to stand firm against the enemy and bring victory and freedom into your life.

Below are just a few examples of some  of the confessions that I have used in my own life:

“I am submitted to God, and the devil flees from me because I resist him in the Name of Jesus” (James 4:7)

“I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus” ( 2 Corinthians 5:21)

“My children, (insert names), love the Lord with all their hearts, all their soul, all their mind, and their strength. They also love their neighbor as they love themselves” (Mark 12:30-31)

“(Name of loved one) has the peace of God that passes all understanding” (Philipians 4:7)
